Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond...

Bush just got his hands truly tied by the US mid-term results, and an American friend of mine is going positively orgasmic over the results, and the fact that Donald Rumsfeld just resigned.

Well you'd be, if you'd been fed up to the back teeth with your government for over six years. I should take notes on how to survive it; I dread the creepingly inevitable conservative government that looms over here.

Choice quote from ITV news:

[during his departure speech]

"Rumsfeld looked almost bitter, as if no-one quite understood the war like he did..."

And here's Rummie in his own words, back in 2002:

"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns - the ones we don't know we don't know."

(Answers on a postcard...)

Gee, was Rumsfield attending the George W.Bush school of public speaking the day he gave that speech?!!

That's priceless.

Ing- I'd rather have conservatives than the bunch of charlatans currently residing in Downing Street. In my humble opinion, of course.Labour have had their day now. And not before time, either

Jen, fast-forward five years to the future when the Tories will inevitably be in power just because people want change for the sake of change. I guarantee we'll still be winging about the NHS, Schools, Policing (!) etc...

And.... Then rewind fifteen years. I grew up under Thatcher, Major et al, and I remember *quite* how bad things were.

Agree to disagree.
